Most people who visit Charleston don’t realize there is a zoo in the city. It’s located at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site, a 664-acre site along the marsh and the Ashley River that is home not only to a natural habitat zoo, but also miles of trails, historic exhibits, ongoing archaeological digs, and more.

The zoo is located in the Animal Forest. Here in this zoo unique to the Lowcountry, you'll discover only creatures that were indigenous to the area in 1670.

The Animal Forest at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site is accessible year-round (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). The hours are 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. daily. Admission includes access to Charles Town Landing as well as the Animal Forest.
